Top 3 Hidden Treasures of Surigao Del Sur

Top Hidden Treasures of Surigao Del Sur
I was born in Tandag, Surigao del Sur, Philippines. It is located in the Eastern Part of Mindanao. It is known for the dusty, poor roads. I never thought that it would be improved in my lifetime! But not until two years ago, when construction of the Surigao del Sur highway started.

On August 5, 2010, I had a chance to have a week-long vacation with my family and the whole clan for our first grand reunion. I could not believe that the once considered highway to nowhere is now a first class, well-constructed and maintained highway. It not only improves business and commerce, but also opens the hidden treasures of the province to the whole world.

Britannia Island's White Beach, San Agustin
Composed of 20 or more islands and islets, this features fine white sands and blue water. On sunny weather, contrast of white sands and blue to dark blue water is an awe-inspiring view. The silica in the sand glistens like minute diamonds under your feet. Strolling in the beach barefoot is a walk in the spa that relaxes your tired feet. Swimming in the clear water is a refreshing experience and the cool breeze from the pacific calms down your mind as it adds up to the one of a kind encounter with nature.

Enchanted River in Hinatuan
Hidden in the thick vegetation of Hinatuan, is a river that seems to originate from the side of the mountain. From the plain view from the top, cool water rose from the unfathomable underwater cavern to the pool-like basin which exits to the sea. The short swim across the basin energizes your body. Schools of different kinds of fishes are a magnificent view during feeding time.

Tinuy-an Falls in Bislig City
Considered as the Niagara Falls of Philippines, these 3 tiered majestic waterfalls is nature at its best. Bamboo rafts will carry you to the bottom of the 55 meters falls for a cool bath. You can experience a soothing massage-like feeling as the water touches your body. Exotic ferns and orchids can also be seen in both sides of the falls. A rainbow overhead the waterfalls in the morning is a splendid view.
